Protection of Vulnerable Adults & Abuse Awareness

This 1 day course looks at abusive behaviour, how victims' may react, and what to do if you witness or suspect actions of abuse.

Every year thousands of vulnerable adults fall victim to abusive behaviour, as part of the National Care Standards requirements, care providers need to be aware of the causes, effects and appropriate responses to these abusive situations. The course is designed to look at a number of issues:

How widespread is abuse within our society?
Who would abuse, and why?
Are abusers suffering from a mental illness?
When and how acts of abuse take place
The different types of abusive behaviour
Signs & symtoms of abuse
Unwitting acts of abuse
What to do if you witness or suspect acts of abuse

Designed to be interactive, with lots of group-work and some DVD material, this course is ideal for all nurses and care workers/providers. May be tailored to suit individual service user/care provider settings, e.g.Learning Disabilities, Older Adult. A 1/2 day, shortened course is also available. Courses delivered by an experienced community care manager or registered nurse with older adult and learning disabilities experience.
